OUR HISTORY

Explore over 1,000 years of history and culture!

Steeped in history, Clifton has been the home of various cultures spanning centuries. Over 500 years ago Lucayans built their villages on the beaches here, in the late 1700s Loyalists left America and established cotton plantations on these grounds, and Africans both enslaved and free lived here during the late 1700s and early 1800s.

The plantation at Clifton has the distinction of being the only complete plantation remaining on New Providence. Remnants of the Great House, former home of William Wylly, stand as the master’s house while the smaller buildings in the African Village are what remain of the slaves’ quarters.

With history, nature and culture at your fingertips, Clifton is the ultimate experience for anyone seeking adventure.
